Marquette's first half goal serves as only score in tightly-contested matchup
MILWAUKEE - DePaul women's soccer was unable to find an offensive spark on Thursday in Milwaukee, falling to the Marquette Golden Eagles, 1-0. DePaul (3-3, 2-3 BIG EAST) was able to total seven total shots to Marquette's five but the Blue Demons could not orchestrate a goal to answer Alyssa Bombacino's first-half strike.
The lone goal of the contest came in the 36th minute when Bombacino was able to get a piece of a low cross in the box and send it past DePaul goalkeeper Mollie Eriksson. The goal proved to be crucial as scoring chances came at a premium throughout the contest at Valley Fields. Eriksson did not have to make a single save and Marquette's Mikki Easter tallied a pair of stops.
DePaul upped the intensity on the attacking end with time winding down but the Golden Eagles (5-2, 3-2) were able to contain all of the Blue Demons' scoring chances. Brooke Weitzel and Bina Saipi led DePaul with two shots apiece.
