CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer takes on Marquette for the home opener of the 2020-21 season at Wish Field on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. CT. The Blue Demons (0-1-2, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) host the first match at Wish Field since November 6, 2019 and are looking to rebound from a conference-opening defeat that was suffered against Butler on Wednesday.
The Blue Demons and Golden Eagles (3-1-0, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) match up for the 35th time ever and the Blue Demons are looking to snap a two-game losing streak to Marquette. The Golden Eagles have played four official matches this spring, posting a 3-1-0 overall record. Marquette won three-straight 1-0 decisions before losing its conference opener against Creighton back on February 20, 2-1 in overtime.
The Blue Demons dropped their conference opener on Wednesday against a Butler side that was aided by a Wilmer Cabrera, Jr. hat trick. 2019's BIG EAST Freshman of the Year scored 13 minutes into the match then extended the Bulldog lead after the halftime break. Butler went on to claim a 5-0 win.
DePaul played a pair of non-conference matches, battling to draws in both contests in Rockford, Ill. Most recently, the Blue Demons completed 110 scoreless minutes against Loyola-Chicago on February 21. Goalkeeper Drew Nuelle made nine saves, four in overtime, to keep the Ramblers off of the board. Nuelle earned BIG EAST Honor Roll recognition for his performance.
After taking on Marquette, the Blue Demons will hit the road again for a mid-week BIG EAST match, this time traveling to Cincinnati to face Xavier at noon CT on Wednesday, March 10.
