Blue Demons Sweep Saturday with 4-1 Victory

Sullivan goes three-for-three, DePaul improves to 9-1 in BIG EAST play
CHICAGO – DePaul claimed a doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 win over Creighton in game two at Cacciatore Stadium.
The Blue Demons improved to 18-9 on the season and 9-1 in BIG EAST action with the victory while Creighton fell to 13-10 overall and 8-6 in league play.
Freshman Nicole Sullivan went three-for-three from behind the plate including two RBIs and the first home run of her career. Brooke Johnson recorded her fourth home run of the season for two RBIs on the afternoon.
In the circle, Natalie Halvorson threw eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings and moved to 6-4 with the win. Fellow senior Krista Dalgarn earned her first save of the season with 1.1 innings of work and two punchouts in four batters faced.
In the third inning, Cothern reached base on a walk before Johnson's long ball plated two to give the Blue Demons the lead.
Sullivan blasted her homer to left center in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase the advantage to 3-0.
The sixth inning saw Creighton get on the board for the first time all day. The Bluejays saw a leadoff single from Ashley Cantu before Kiara Mills sent a double to left field. Madeline Vejvoda sent a sacrifice fly to left field to score Cantu and bring Creighton within two at 3-1.
Sullivan sent a two-out double to right center in the bottom of the sixth to score Hilger from first to provide the insurance run.
The top of the seventh saw Dalgarn lay the Bluejays down in order to claim the victory.
DePaul and Creighton will wrap up the weekend series on Sunday with first pitch set for Noon CT at Cacciatore Stadium.
