Blue Demons advance to conference semifinals for fifth consecutive time

CAYCE, S.C. – Coach Matt Brothers and his top-seeded Blue Demons took care of business Friday afternoon at the BIG EAST Quarterfinals.

DePaul shut down Georgetown 4-0 in advancing to Saturday's semifinals against the winner of No. 4 seed Butler and No. 5 Creighton. First serve of the semifinal showdown is 12 p.m.

This is the fifth consecutive time the Blue Demons have advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals, earning a spot in the 2018 conference title match.

The No. 1 doubles team of Christopher Casati and Boris Spanjaard commenced the postseason with a 6-1 triumph over Georgetown's Kiernan Foster and Mark Militzer. That boosted their team-high doubles record to 12-4.

Brothers' No. 3 tandem of Fran Tonejc and Tripp Tuff followed up with a 6-3 decision over Luke Ross and Harry Yang to secure the match's doubles point.

Tuff took that early momentum into his singles match at No. 6, notching a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Yang. His fourth win in a row lifted Tuff's record to 13-6 on the season.

It was 3-0, DePaul after Boris Spanjaard handed Luke Ross a 6-2, 6-3 setback at No. 3 singles. That was also Spanjaard's fourth-straight mark in the "W" column.

The winning point came courtesy of Tamas Zador defeating Derek Raskopf 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

Brothers & Co. have already faced their potential semifinal opponents this season, beating Creighton 6-1 on Feb. 13 at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness while topping Butler 4-3 on April 2 in Indianapolis.
