Richards and Rao Deliver in Exhibition Victory

DePaul tops Milwaukee 2-1 in preseason opener
CHICAGO - DePaul men's soccer claimed a 2-1 victory versus Milwaukee on Friday in Chicago in the squad's first of three exhibition matches to begin the 2021 campaign. Senior Jack Richards scored to get the Blue Demons on the board and senior Robert Rao converted a penalty kick to extend the Blue Demon lead later on in the second half.
With around 15 minutes remaining in the first half, Richards won a 50/50 ball down the right sideline after Jacob Seeto sent a high clearance out of the DePaul end. Richards outran a defender and tucked a right-footed shot past the Milwaukee keeper to put the Blue Demons on the board. After scoring in DePaul's final two matches earlier this spring, Richards picked up right where he left off in the Blue Demons opening exhibition.
In the second half, Seeto was fouled in the Panther box, leading to a penalty try for Rao. Rao converted, extending the DePaul advantage to two. Later on, DePaul starved off a handful of Milwaukee attacking attempts before the Panthers scored with just five seconds remaining.
25 Blue Demons saw action in the exhibition win. Jake Fuderer, who has led the Blue Demons in scoring in each of the last two seasons, led the team with three shots on target. Goalkeepers Gandhi Cruz and Santiago Davila both made a pair of saves in net for DePaul.
UP NEXT
DePaul travels to Bloomington, Ind. to take on Indiana in an exhibition match on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. CT. Indiana advanced to the NCAA Championship earlier this spring, falling to Marshall in the title match. The Blue Demons will return to Chicago to host Wheaton in the squad's final exhibition before the season opener versus Loyola-Chicago on Thursday, Aug. 26.
