DePaul's Gandhi Cruz and the rest of the defensive unit play key role in draw
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - DePaul men's soccer worked to a 0-0 2OT draw in an exhibition versus Indiana on the road Monday night. Battling against the defending NCAA runner-up, the Blue Demons were able to shut out an Indiana side that boasts one of the best offenses in the country.
Sophomore goalkeeper Gandhi Cruz assembled an impressive shutout behind the back line of Grant Herbek, Matty Brickman, Jake Fuderer, David Gripman and McKay Lahood. The defensive unit was able to limit Hoosier chances and reject a handful of dangerous opportunities that presented themselves through the 110 minutes of action.
Offensively, the Blue Demons had a pair of chances late in the match that could have been the difference. Jack Richards played a quality cross towards Charlie Clancy and Marek Gonda but the ball ended just out of reach of the Blue Demon attackers. Jacob Huth also had a key chance with time winding down but his shot was blocked inside the box.
Both squads utilized a handful of reserves to mix and match lineups during the exhibition matchup. The match was the first of three exhibitions for Indiana while DePaul wraps up its exhibition slate later this weekend.
DePaul traveled to Bloomington to face Indiana after claiming its first exhibition, a 2-1 decision over Milwaukee last Friday at Wish Field.
UP NEXT
