A Singularly Good Showing for Men's Tennis

Blue Demons go 6-3 in singles Friday at Notre Dame Invitational
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A full-strength DePaul men's tennis team put on an impressive performance Friday at the Notre Dame Invitational named in honor of highly successful, longtime former Fighting Irish tennis coach Bobby Bayliss.
The BIG EAST champion Blue Demons went 6-3 in singles on day one of the event and split four doubles matches.
BIG EAST Player of the Year Vito Tonejc and highly regarded freshman Matteo Iaquinto served up the most decisive decisions.
Tonejc was in control from start to finish during a 6-3, 6-1 victory over the Fighting Irish's Jean-Marc Malkowski.
Iaquinto was equally dominant in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Nathan Balthazor of rival Marquette.
Another impressive freshman, Marino Jakic, prevailed over a Power Five Conference opponent Max Sheldon of Michigan State. Classmate Sven Moser prevailed over Shaddy Khalafallah (Marquette) 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(8-0.
Tripp Tuff racked up a third win over Marquette by a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0(8-0) margin against Rami Scheetz. Luuk Wassenaar registered the second triumph over Notre Dame with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0(5-0) result against Brian Bilsey.
In doubles, Iaquinto and Tripp Tuff took down Peter Kuszynski and Ferdinand Schlueter from Western Michigan 8-6 while Wassenaar and Huck defeated Notre Dame's Brian Bilsey and Jameson Corsillo 8-4.
