Blue Demons Win Weekend Finale Over Murray State 3-2

Hocker pitches complete game win as DePaul moves to 4-0 on the season
ROSEMONT, Ill. - DePaul softball closed out the first weekend of the season with a 3-2 win over Murray State on Saturday night. The Blue Demons wrapped up the four-game slate at the DePaul Dome Tournament with a 4-0 record.Â
Erin Hocker secured the win in the circle while Tori Meyer and Brooke Johnson were responsible for bringing home the runs.Â
The Racers struck first with a home run to left field in the first at bat of the game. DePaul answered back in the second with a Tori Meyer RBI single to plate Anna Wohlers. Wohlers had reached on a double at the prior at bat.Â
The third inning saw Johnson create some separation with one swipe of the bat as the first baseman shot a two-run homer over the center field wall to score Grace Frazier put DePaul (4-0) ahead 3-1.Â
Murray State tacked on an additional run in the fifth in a run down scenario to trim DePaul's advantage to a single run.
Hocker retired the side in the top of the seventh to pick up her first win of the season. Â
Saturday night served as the first meeting between the two programs as two former Blue Demon greats went head-to-head in the matchup. Murray State head coach Kara Amundson was a four-year letter winner in Lincoln Park from 2003-07 alongside DePaul head coach Tracie Adix-Zins. The pair saw tremendous success while donning a Blue Demon uniform, appearing in the 2005 and 2007 WCWS. Â
The Blue Demons will head west to San Diego, Calif. Feb. 18-19 for the San Diego Classic. The second weekend of the season will kick off against Iowa at 6:30 p.m. CT on Friday evening.Â
