Hocker pitches complete game win as DePaul moves to 4-0 on the season

ROSEMONT, Ill. - DePaul softball closed out the first weekend of the season with a 3-2 win over Murray State on Saturday night. The Blue Demons wrapped up the four-game slate at the DePaul Dome Tournament with a 4-0 record.

Erin Hocker secured the win in the circle while Tori Meyer and Brooke Johnson were responsible for bringing home the runs.

The Racers struck first with a home run to left field in the first at bat of the game. DePaul answered back in the second with a Tori Meyer RBI single to plate Anna Wohlers. Wohlers had reached on a double at the prior at bat.

The third inning saw Johnson create some separation with one swipe of the bat as the first baseman shot a two-run homer over the center field wall to score Grace Frazier put DePaul (4-0) ahead 3-1.

Murray State tacked on an additional run in the fifth in a run down scenario to trim DePaul's advantage to a single run.

Hocker retired the side in the top of the seventh to pick up her first win of the season.

Saturday night served as the first meeting between the two programs as two former Blue Demon greats went head-to-head in the matchup. Murray State head coach Kara Amundson was a four-year letter winner in Lincoln Park from 2003-07 alongside DePaul head coach Tracie Adix-Zins. The pair saw tremendous success while donning a Blue Demon uniform, appearing in the 2005 and 2007 WCWS.

The Blue Demons will head west to San Diego, Calif. Feb. 18-19 for the San Diego Classic. The second weekend of the season will kick off against Iowa at 6:30 p.m. CT on Friday evening.
