Blue Demons unable to score in eight-inning setback
ORLANDO, Fla. – DePaul and Oakland went toe-to-toe through seven innings on Friday afternoon before the Blue Demons fell 1-0 in eight innings in their Knights Classic debut on the campus of University of Central Florida.
DePaul (5-4) left a combined eight runners on base in the first three innings while the Golden Grizzlies totaled just one hit in that span.
The seventh inning saw neither squad get the bats going with just one batter reaching base as Tori Meyer ripped a triple down the right field line, but could not be pushed across to send the game to extra innings.
The top of the eighth saw Oakland break the stalemate with a RBI single to center field to plate the runner place on second via the international tiebreak rule.
In the bottom half of the frame, the Blue Demons were in search of a run. Freshman Anna Wohlers was the runner placed on second and advanced to third on a SAC bunt from Riley Pool but could not be pushed across as a lineout to short stop ended the contest.
Senior pitcher Erin Hocker threw a complete game, surrendering just one run and four hits while recording three punchouts.
DePaul returns to action on Friday night against No. 4 Florida at approximately 7:30 p.m. CT.
