Blue Demons meet Ole Miss, UCF in day two of Knights Classic
ORLANDO, Fla. – Despite leading 3-2 after two and a half innings, DePaul could not withstand a seven-run third inning from No. 4 Florida in a 11-3 (five innings) setback on Friday night in game two of the Knights Classic.
Florida (13-0) tacked on a run apiece in the first two innings to take the early lead before DePaul (5-5) answered with three runs of their own in the top-half of the third.Â
Anna Wohlers kick started the rally for the Blue Demons with a single up the middle before Riley Pool reached on a walk and Maranda Gutierrez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. At the next at bat, Skylor Hilger reached on a Gators error to score Wohlers. Brooke Johnson singled up the middle to plate Addison Talbot and Gutierrez to put the Blue Demons in front 3-2.Â
The Gators responded in the bottom-half of the third with seven runs on seven hits and a pair of walks to retake the lead 9-3. Florida added a run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings to take the game 11-3 in five innings.Â
Natalie Halvorson moved to 2-1 in the circle after 2.1 innings of work while Sarah Lehman came in in relief throwing the final 1.2 innings.
DePaul will turn around and face Ole Miss at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday before meeting UCF at 3 p.m. in day two of the Knights Classic.
