Blue Demons come up scoreless to Ole Miss
ORLANDO, Fla. – DePaul softball opened day two of the Knights Classic with a 2-0 defeat to Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Demons totaled just three hits on the outing compared to six from the Rebels including two home runs.
DePaul saw strong offensive chances in the first inning with Maranda Gutierrez drawing a leadoff walk and Skylor Hilger tapping a single to first base. Runners advanced on a wild pitch before Gutierrez was caught out at home on a Nicole Sullivan fielder's choice. The Blue Demons stranded two after a strikeout ended the inning.
Ole Miss (10-4) saw a pair of home runs from KK Esparaza to left field in the third and fifth innings to create the difference in the matchup.
Skylor Hilger tallied a two hits in the contest while freshman Anna Wohlers also reached base on a hit.
Senior pitcher Erin Hocker moved to 1-3 on the season in the circle, surrendering six hits and striking out four.
DePaul will take on UCF at 3 p.m. CT in its penultimate matchup at the Knights Classic.
