DePaul Women's Soccer held off by Iowa
IOWA CITY, I.A. – DePaul women's soccer falls to Iowa (4-0) on the road in Iowa City on Sunday afternoon. The Hawkeyes (2-2) immediately took control of the field, putting up 3 goals in the first half. The Blue Demons (1-2) tried to reciprocate on offense, but Iowa always seemed to be one step ahead.
DePaul was in sync with Iowa for the first few minutes of the match. Goalkeeper Mollie Eriksson saved a shot at the 3rd minute, but the Hawkeyes retaliated quickly with a goal in the 7th. Iowa fed off the excitement from their early connection with the net and scored two more goals in the 12th and 29th minutes. Sophomore forward Susie Soderstrom and senior forward Kristin Boos both had 1 shot on goal. However, the Blue Demons' offensive game was no threat to Iowa, who threw up 10 shots before the end of the half.
In the second half, Iowa put up 10 more shots with only one successful attempt in the 57th minute. The Blue Demons fell behind on offense, only putting up two shots on goal by freshman forward Freya Jupp and junior defender Bella Hanisch. Defender Sydney Parker played a crucial role in DePaul's possessions, keeping Iowa players at bay on her side of the field. Ultimately, the Hawkeyes' aggressive offense and great defensive play gave them the victory.
