
First Half Onslaught Leads DePaul Past Lindenwood

Parker scores a pair, Soderstrom adds a tally in 3-1 non-conference victory
CHICAGO – Three goals in the first 45 minutes including a pair from senior Sydney Parker led DePaul women's soccer past Lindenwood 3-0 on Thursday afternoon in the non-conference finale.

The Blue Demons strung together a complete match, maintaining their aggressiveness throughout the full 90 minutes while recording a season-high 21 shots including 10 on target.Â

DePaul (2-5) set the tone early with attacking chances to earn a corner kick in the fifth minute where Ebba Costow triggered the ball to Katie Godden who sent a cross to the far post and connected with Parker on a header to give the Blue Demons an early lead.

A defensive takeaway from Godden in the midfield pushed the Blue Demons down field before sending a ball through to Susie Soderstrom to finish on an empty net and widen the lead to 2-0 in the 31st minute.

A free kick in the 41st minute saw Grace Phillpotts serve the ball to Parker's feet for a volley into the back of the net to put the Blue Demons ahead 3-0 just before the half.

Early in the second half, a scrum in the box saw Lindenwood's Maggie Weller punch a ball past the Blue Demons back line in the 48th minute to cut the lead to a pair. Â

The Blue Demons maintained the offensive pressure for the remainder of the second half behind a pair of chances from Kristin Boos but did not breakthrough for a tally.

In the victory, DePaul outshot Lindenwood 21-6 while maintaining possession 67 percent of the match.
