Blue Demons Fall in Three-Set Match at St. John’s

Klemp leads offense with 10 kills
NEW YORK, N.Y. - DePaul volleyball fell 3-0 (22-25, 19-25, 27-29) to St. John's, Friday night.
DePaul (10-8, 3-4 BIG EAST) was led by Audrey Klemp with 10 kills, her 10th match of the season with double-digit terminations. Freshman Meghan Scholz recorded a new career high, earning eight kills and chipping in five blocks.
Junior Maggie Jones poured in 26 assists while senior libero Rachel Krasowski earned 13 digs.
St. John's (14-5, 6-1 BIG EAST) was led by Lucrezia Lodi with 14 kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE: The Blue Demons grabbed two quick points, but the Johnnies responded with a 6-0 run of their own to go up, 6-2. An error from the hosts and a Klemp kill put DePaul down two, but St. John's went on a 7-1 surge of their own to get in control of the set. A late 8-1 run, highlighted by kills from Scholz and Karl and an ace from Lee got the Blue Demons within two but the Red Storm came out on top.
SET TWO: An ace from Krasowski and errors from the Red Storm put the Blue Demons up early, 4-0. St. John's went on a 7-1 run to take the lead away. Kills from Klemp and Jones kept DePaul within two, but the Johnnies used a 4-2 surge to take a 21-16 lead. Following a timeout by DePaul, Karl recorded her third kill of the night but the Red Storm took the win with a kill.
SET THREE: A 3-0 run behind errors by the Red Storm put the Blue Demons in the lead. An ace by Karl gave the visitors the 10-6 lead. A 5-1 surge by St. John's tied the match at 11 all. Much back-and-forth was seen in the middle of the match, as there were 14 ties and nine lead changes. A 3-0 surge by DePaul, topped off with a kill from Nelson evened the match, 22-22. The Blue Demons and Red Storm traded blows in the final points of the match, but St. John's victory came on a kill.

DePaul rounds out their east coast swing with a visit to the Seton Hall Pirates on Saturday, Oct. 21. First serve from Walsh Gymnasium is set for 6 p.m. CT.
