The Blue Demons earned their third shutout this season
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer fought to a 0-0 draw with Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Demons generated clean shots but were unable to connect before the end of the 90 minutes.Â
Â"Getting a point and a shutout on the road isn't easy, so I'm glad we were able to do that, said head coach Michele O'Brien. "We had some quality chances to score but were not able to execute those chances. We will focus on being more clinical in the final third and be ready for our home game against Creighton on Thursday."
ÂDePaul (5-6-3, 1-4-2 BIG EAST) started the match off strong, generating two shots within the first 10 minutes of the game. The Blue Demons and Seton Hall went back and forth for the remainder of the first half. The Pirates managed to put up one shot on goal but senior goalkeeper Elena Milam put a stop to it. Both teams entered the second half scoreless.Â
ÂIn the second 45 minutes, the Blue Demons looked to get on the board. Senior Beth Smyth and freshman Lea Eisenring created opportunities in the 48th and 70th minutes respectively but could not connect. Seton Hall (6-6-4, 2-3-3 BIG EAST) put up five shots but came up unsuccessful thanks to Milam and defensive efforts by Schuyler Riese, Kristen Schwartz, Lina Dantes and Grace Menser.Â
ÂIn the last 10 minutes of the game, junior forward Susie Soderstrom laid on the pressure, generating three shots, but fell short. In the end, both teams were unable to find the back of the net.Â
ÂSoderstrom led the offense for the Blue Demons, putting up five shots with one on goal. Milam tallied four saves in the net, eliminating all of Seton Hall's goal opportunities and recording her third shutout this season .Â
