The Blue Demons fight to a draw with the Blue Jays
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer drew a 1-1 tie with Creighton Thursday afternoon. After the Blue Jays were first to get on the board, Freya Jupp found the equalizer in the second half to earn a point for the Blue Demons.Â
Â"I thought we showed a ton of heart and passion and committed to our game plan," said head coach Michele O'Brien. "The goal we conceded was disappointing since I felt we were on top of the game and had momentum, but good players find a way to score and capitalize and that is what Creighton did. I was proud of the team for staying the course and Freya came up big with a great goal. We will use this game as momentum for a must win game for senior day on Sunday against Villanova."
ÂDePaul (5-6-4, 1-4-3 BIG EAST) was quick to look for opportunities at the start of the match. The Blue Demons put up five shots before Creighton (4-7-5, 2-5-1 BIG EAST) was able to connect off their first attempt in the 21st minute. DePaul searched for an answer, but was unable to respond before the end of the first half.Â
ÂEntering the second 45 minutes DePaul was down, 0-1. Defensive efforts by Lina Dantes, Grace Menser, Kristen Swartz and Schuyler Riese limited any chances of another goal for the Blue Jays. In the 57th minute, Jupp made a breakthrough, finding the equalizer for DePaul with a quick strike and tying the game at 1-1.Â
ÂBoth teams laid on the pressure, in hopes of generating the game winning goal. Danielle Fjeldsted assisted the Blue Demons by forcing pressured turnovers and Ellie Mink cleared any advances from DePaul's box. However, in the end, neither team could capitalize.Â
