The Blue Demons tie with the Friars

CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer fought to a 1-1 draw with Providence, Thursday afternoon. A last minute connection by senior captain Ellie Mink gave the Blue Demons the equalizer.

"It was a tale of two halves," said head coach Michele O'Brien. "We were on our heels the first half and conceded a soft goal. We adjusted our tactics at halftime and the energy and aggressive mentality was evident in the second half and I thought we absolutely deserved to equalize. We will build off that second half performance and be ready for a good Butler team on Sunday."

In the first half of the match Providence (7-2-2, 2-0-2 BIG EAST) took control of the field, putting up 11 shots to DePaul's four attempts. The Blue Demons (4-5-2, 0-3-1 BIG EAST) held them back until the 27th minute, when the Friars broke through, scoring the first goal of the game. DePaul went into the second 45 down by one.

The Blue Demons took to the field in the second half with a new surge of energy, looking for an answer to Providence's lone goal. DePaul laid on the pressure and the attack took advantage of every opportunity given to them. Blue Demons doubled their generated shots from the first 45 minutes.

With two minutes remaining, Mink headed the ball into the back of the net, off a set piece curated by freshman Lea Eisenring to put the Blue Demons on the board. The Friars looked for another breakthrough but were unable to for a 1-1 tie.

UP NEXT: The Blue Demons head to Indianapolis, Ind. to take on Butler Oct. 8 for a 12 p.m. CT match.
