Blue Demons and Bluejays meet for first time this season
CHICAGO - DePaul volleyball returns to McGrath-Phillips Arena on Saturday night to host No. 15 Creighton. First serve is set for 6 p.m., and fans can stream the match here.Â
"Both Creighton and Marquette are top in the league for opponent hitting percentage, which means they are very hard to score on," said head coach Marie Zidek. "We feel ready defensively but our offense will need to remain confident and creative in both play calling and execution of play calling. These matches are tremendous opportunities to chisel our next gear, and we welcome the challenge."
SCOUTING THE BLUEJAYS
- Creighton enters the weekend at 12-3 (3-1 BIG EAST), dropping their lone conference matchup to Xavier.
- Sophomore Ava Martin is second in the BIG EAST in kills, averaging 4.04 per set.
- Kendra Wait ranks second in the league at assists with 9.98 per set.Â
- Senior libero Ellie Bolton paces the Bluejay defense, totaling 243 digs which is good for 4.34 per set and third in the conference.
- Kirsten Bernthal Booth is in her 21st season leading the Bluejays.
SERIES STUFF
Creighton leads the all-time series, 21-1.
BLUE DEMON BITS
- DePaul enters the matchup sitting in fifth in the BIG EAST standings with an overall record of 10-6 (3-2 BIG EAST).
- The team ranks in the top three in four categories within the BIG EAST: first in blocks (2.40 per set), second in digs (16.27 per set) and third in kills (12.82 per set) and assists (12.13 per set).
- Jill Pressly leads the Blue Demons offense averaging 4.47 kills per set, good for first in the league and 13th in the nation. The senior was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after recording 47 kills in two matches.
- Rachel Krasowski has 287 digs, averaging 5.22 per set which ranks first in the conference and 12th in the country. Krasowski was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday after averaging 7.38 digs per set on the first road swing of conference play.
- Freshman Meghan Scholz is second in the conference in blocks with 1.12 per set.
- The Blue Demons have two setters within the top-10 of the conference. Ashley Cudiamat ranks eighth with an average of 6.88 assists per set while Maggie Jones rounds out the top 10 with an average of 5.97 per set.
UP NEXT
DePaul will head back to the East Coast as they pay a visit to Seton Hall and St. John's next weekend. The Blue Demons will take on the Red Storm on Friday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. and wrap up the road trip with a matchup against the Pirates on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m.
