DePaul shoots season-high 50 percent from three
GLENDALE, ARIZ. – After a back-and-forth first half, the DePaul men's basketball team couldn't hold off a strong second period from San Francisco. The Blue Demons fell in the final game of the Arizona Tipoff, 70-54, Sunday afternoon.
Chico Carter Jr. continued his hot shooting from Friday night, going 5-of-8 from three-point range. Carter Jr. ended the game with 15 points, four rebounds and two assists. Da'Sean Nelson also joined him in double-digit scoring, with a season-high 15 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DePaul put up seven unanswered points early, including five from Nelson, for a 10-6 lead. The Blue Demons shot 4-for-7 in the opening minutes.
The 'Dons quickly answered back with a run of their own, tying the game at 13. San Francisco extended to a 28-22 lead, before Carter Jr. hit back-to-back threes that kept DePaul within a single possession going into the half.
San Francisco stormed out to an 18-4 run in the second period, creating a lead that DePaul ultimately wouldn't be able to overcome. The Blue Demons pulled within 12 with seven minutes left to play, on a pair of three-pointers from Carter Jr. and Nelson, 59-47. The 'Dons kept their offense moving as DePaul couldn't cut into the lead any further.
OF NOTE
- As a team, DePaul shot a season-high 52.9 percent (9-for-17) from three.
- Keyondre Young recorded his first basket in a DePaul uniform.
- Nelson tied his career high with two three-pointers.
