Blue Demons Face Off Against #16 Xavier

CINCINNATI – The DePaul men's basketball team looks to get back on track Saturday with a road matchup against #16 Xavier. The game, slated for a 3 p.m. CT tip off, will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network with Andrew Catalon and Steve Lappas on the call. Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine will have the radio call on WSCR 670 The Score.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
DePaul (9-17, 3-12 BIG EAST) is coming off a double overtime loss against St. John's at home on Tuesday. The Blue Demons led a majority of the game, until St. John's made a second half push and tied the game with a three at the buzzer. Of the six losses in a row for DePaul, the Blue Demons have been within two possessions at under five minutes in four of the seven games.
Against St. John's, Javan Johnson led the Blue Demons with a game-high 26 points including six three-pointers. DePaul saw a total of four players reach double-digit scoring efforts, including Nick Ongenda who made his season debut against the Red Storm. Ongenda posted 11 points with eight blocks and six rebounds. His eight blocks tie a career-high and rank as the second most in a single-game at DePaul. As a team, the Blue Demons totaled 13 blocks which is the most by any BIG EAST team this season.
THE SERIES
Xavier (19-7, 11-4 BIG EAST) leads the all-time series 17-12, however, DePaul has won three of the last four including the earlier meeting between the programs this season. DePaul took down then-eighth-ranked Xavier at home in a 73-72 win for the Blue Demons first top-10 win in three years. The game marked Xavier's first conference loss and snapped an 11-game losing streak. Since then DePaul has gone 0-7 and Xavier is 4-3.
SCOUTING XAVIER
Xavier enters Saturday's game coming off back-to-back road losses, however, the Musketeers are 13-1 this season at home. Their only loss inside the Cintas Center came in November against No. 12 Indiana. Xavier was shorthanded earlier this week against Marquette, playing only seven deep.
In the first meeting between the two teams this season, DePaul held Xavier to a season-low 30.8 field goal percentage. The Musketeers currently lead the nation in assists per game (20.5) and rank fourth nationally in field goal percentage (50.1). Souley Boum has been a standout, leading the team with 16.4 points and 4.8 assists per game.
