LEXINGTON, Ky. – DePaul could not keep pace with fourteenth-ranked Kentucky in a 11-3 five-inning decision to open the John Cropp Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Demons mustered just four hits while allowing 13 from the host Wildcats and couldn't seem to find their footing defensively, committing six errors leading to three unearned runs.
Nicole Sullivan tallied a multi-hit outing including a RBI-base knock in the third to put DePaul on the board while Anna Wohlers notched a two-run shot in the fifth for her team-best sixth home run of the season.
DePaul (8-12, 0-3 BIG EAST) saw chances to pish more runs across including a bases loaded scenario in the top of the second but could not push runs across. Â
Brenna Smith went three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits while falling to 2-5 on the season. Bella Nigey faced seven batters in relief, surrendering one earned run on four hits.
Up Next: DePaul's second game of the day scheduled for 4 p.m. versus Longwood has been canceled due to low temperatures in the area. The Blue Demons and Lancers will now square off on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT with coverage on ESPN+.
