Blue Demons stung by walk-off home run in weekend finale

LEXINGTON, Ky. – It was a walk-off two-run home run that stung DePaul on Sunday afternoon as the Longwood Lancers broke the stalemate with one swing of the bat to claim a 6-4 win on the final day of the John Cropp Classic on the campus of the University of Kentucky.

After the Blue Demons roared back from a four-run deficit with a three-run sixth inning, a two-out homer to left field for Longwood dashed the comeback hopes as DePaul dropped their fifth straight.

Anna Wohlers and Tori Meyer were the bright spots in the lineup, accounting for all four runs batted in. Wohlers went 2-for-3 on the day while Meyer's two-RBI single to right field evened the score at four in the sixth inning.

Freshman designated player Alexis Houge crossed the plate twice on the outing, reaching base with a base knock, a Lancers error and a walk.

Bella Nigey threw a complete game in the circle, surrendering six hits while allowing just one earned run to go along with three strikeouts.

Up Next: DePaul will face a quick turnaround as the Blue Demons are set to travel down state to take on Illinois State on Tuesday, March 21. First pitch from Normal is set for 4 p.m. CT.
