DePaul Welcomes Seton Hall to Cacciatore Stadium for Three-Game Series

Series opener slated for Friday at 2 p.m.
CHICAGO – DePaul softball jumps back into BIG EAST play this weekend as the Blue Demons prepare to host Seton Hall for a three-game set, April 14-16, at Cacciatore Stadium.

The series opener is slated for Friday at 2 p.m. with game two following on Saturday at 1 p.m. and the finale scheduled for Sunday at Noon. All three games will be streamed live on FloSoftball. Tickets are available here.

DePaul will look to take a step forward in the back half of conference play, sitting currently at 12-21 on the season and 4-8 through four BIG EAST series.

The Blue Demons return home for their penultimate home series of the season in the midst of an 11 of 12 game stretch played at Cacciatore Stadium. In Tuesday's midweek matchup at Wisconsin, the Badgers took an early lead and never looked back as DePaul fell 11-1 in five innings.
Offensively, Brooke Johnson and Anna Wohlers have carried the load at the top of the order for the Blue Demons this season. The first baseman leads the squad with a .385 average on 37 hits while reaching base at a team-base .455 clip. Wohlers is batting .375 and has driven in 29 RBIs on the year on 11 doubles and nine home runs. Over the last 10 games, Johnson's average has risen to .520 with 13 hits in 25 at bats to go along with nine RBIs.
Junior Nicole Sullivan has driven in 15 runs including the lone run scored in Madison earlier in the week while center fielder Tori Meyer has also pushed 15 tallies across the plate.

In the circle, right-hander Brenna Smith has paced the pitching staff with 79 innings pitched across 21 appearances and four complete games. The Purdue transfer tallied a career-best six strikeouts in a one-run loss to Creighton last weekend. Â Freshman Bella Nigey, who has missed time due to injury, owns a staff-best 4.97 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 67.2 innings thrown. Katey Pierce made a relief appearance in Tuesday's midweek contest and has seen time in the circle on 12 occasions this season.

The Pirates enter the weekend 26-12 overall and 9-3 in BIG EAST play and have won 18 of their last 21 games including a midweek doubleheader over Drexel by a combined score of 20-3.

Abby Wingo has been impressive for Seton Hall, boasting a .402 batting average with 22 RBIs and 13 extra-base hits including four homers. Sophomore Olivia Gilbert leads the team with 29 RBIs on a .330 average.

In the circle, Kelsey Carr has returned from injury and compiled a 1.64 ERA through 77 innings of work while left-hander Shelby Smith sits at 2.36 with a team-best 96 strikeouts. As a pitching staff, Seton Hall owns a ERA of 2.40 in league games which leads the conference.
