CHICAGO – DePaul softball fell into an early deficit it couldn't climb out of in a 9-1 six-inning setback to Seton Hall on Friday afternoon at Cacciatore Stadium.
A fiery Pirates offense saw all nine batters tally at least a hit, while the Blue Demons found offense in the latter stages of the outing but couldn't push runs across.
The lone run for DePaul (12-22, 4-9 BIG EAST) came off the bat of sophomore Anna Wohlers who notched her 10th home run of the season in the third inning.
The Blue Demons looked to extend the game in the sixth inning with a run and appeared to be on their way after Nicole Sullivan notched a leadoff double and advanced on a Tori Meyer bloop single. Neither base runner was advanced in the next three at bats as Seton Hall (27-12, 10-3 BIG EAST) held on to claim the conference victory. Â
Brenna Smith went four innings in the circle, falling to 4-10 on the season with the decision while surrendering seven hits and seven runs. Sophomore right-hander Katey Pierce threw two innings in relief.
Up Next: DePaul and Seton Hall will continue the three-game set on Saturday, April 15 with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. Live coverage will be carried on FloSoftball.
