Softball Continues Homestand with Creighton Series

Blue Demons host Bluejays for Friday doubleheader and Saturday single game
CHICAGO – DePaul softball returns to Cacciatore Stadium April 7-8 for a three-game series against the Creighton Bluejays. The weekend kicks off with a twin bill on Friday beginning at 12 p.m. before Saturday's single-game slated for a Noon first pitch. All three contests will stream live on FloSoftball with live stats available on StatBroadcast.

About DePaul
After claiming its first BIG EAST series of the season last weekend, DePaul will look to continue the momentum as the conference slate hits the midway point.

As a team, the Blue Demons have improved their average from .254 in all games to .319 in league action behind four batters hitting .300 or better.

Anna Wohlers has been on an absolute tear, batting .407 to lead the BIG EAST while rising to .520 in conference games. The sophomore's .852 slugging percentage ranks 15th nationally while her 27 RBIs on the season is tied for second among league batters.

First baseman Brooke Johnson is batting .371 and ranks second on the team with 19 RBIs on five home runs. Nicole Sullivan owns a team best three homers in BIG EAST play while batting .333.

Baylee Cosgrove landed on the BIG EAST Honor Roll last week after batting .625 and driving in six runs in a 2-2 week for DePaul.

Freshman right-hander Bella Nigey owns a staff-best 4.94 ERA in 18 appearances to go along with 45 strikeouts. Junior college transfer Katey Pierce remains unbeaten in the circle in 10 appearances and three starts with a 5.31 ERA.

The Bluejays, under first year head coach Krista Wood, are 14-21 overall and 1-8 in BIG EAST contests. Creighton picked up their first league win of the season last Sunday with a 9-1 run-rule victory over Butler in the series finale.

At the dish, the Bluejays boast five batters with an average north of .300 led by Cayla Nielsen's .385 mark. Nielsen ranks third in the conference with 35 hits. Reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year Kailey Wilson is batting .301 and has driven in 26 runs on seven home runs.

A pair of pitchers have seen the bulk of the work for Creighton in freshman Natalia Puchino and junior Payton Akers. The staff owns a 3.62 era and have notched 170 strikeouts in the season. Akers has amassed a 3.17 ERA while Puchino has recorded a staff-best 62 strikeouts.

The Blue Demons hold a commanding 22-10 edge in the all-time series including a 16-5 mark in BIG EAST contests. A season ago in Omaha, DePaul took two of three and have won five of the last six meetings.
