Late Goal Pushes Ramblers Past DePaul

CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer (3-2-1) was held off by Loyola Chicago (4-4), Sunday afternoon, after a late goal by the Ramblers pushed them past the Blue Demons, earning them the 1-0 victory.

"We came out a little flat and a step too slow," said head coach Michele O'Brien. "Sunday games are a grind, for both teams, and Loyola got the better of us today. We need to be more disciplined throughout the game and be ready to execute in every moment. We will bounce back and be ready for a good NIU team on Thursday night."

Loyola came out strong at the beginning of the match, putting up 11 shots before the end of the first half. Goalkeeper Elena Milam stepped up to the challenge, earning a season high 11 saves by the end of the match. Midfielder Ellie Mink aided in the defensive effort, clearing the Rambler's corner kicks and keeping the opponents off target. Sophomore forward, Freya Jupp posed a threat to Loyola's defense, putting up two shots, but was unable to make a connection. The two programs ended the first half tied, 0-0.

The Ramblers continued to challenge DePaul's back line, generating 13 more shots before making a connection in the 85th minute. The Blue Demons laid on the pressure, looking for a response before the end of the game but came up unsuccessful.

UP NEXT: The Blue Demons close out their home slate and hit the road for their last non-conference game of the season against NIU on Thursday, Sept. 14 for a 7 p.m. CT matchup.
