The Blue Demons notch their fourth win of the season
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer (4-2-1) topped NIU 1-0 on Thursday night. The Blue Demons were able to pull a head with a pressured goal while keeping the Huskies at bay to secure the win.Â
Â"I'm proud of the team for their effort and commitment to our game plan. NIU have some very dangerous attackers and we showed determination with our individual battles and commitment to solid team defensive shape. It was great to close out non-conference play with a shut out and road win. We will be ready for our Big East opener at Marquette next Thursday night."
ÂNIU put up some early shots at the start of the first 45 minutes but were unable to connect. Defenders Kristen Schwartz, Ryan Skall, Grace Menser and Bella Hanisch were able to contain the Huskie attacks going forward with support in the midfield from Ellie Mink and Lea Eisenring.Â
ÂIn the 28th minute, junior forward Susie Soderstrom forced a goalkeeper error with a dangerous, low, hard driven ball across the box that resulted in a goal for DePaul. The Blue Demons entered the second half up 1-0.Â
The Huskies rushed the field at the start of the second half in search of an answer. Milam saved all their advances, stopping all four of NIU's shots on goal. With the Huskies unable to respond before the end of the 90 minutes, DePaul claimed the victory.Â
