DePaul falls to the Golden Eagles
MILWAUKEE – DePaul women's soccer (4-3-1) fell to Marquette in a tough 2-1 decision, Thursday night, after the Golden Eagles made two early connections that pushed them past the Blue Demons despite a penalty kick goal by Lea Eisenring in the second half.
ÂBoth teams started off the match strong, each generating a shot before Marquette made a connection at the 21 minute mark. DePaul looked for an answer, but Marquette continued to rush their backline, breaking through with another goal in the 28 minute. The Blue Demons went into the second half down 2-0.Â
ÂIn the second 45, DePaul amped up their defense, holding the Golden Eagles at bay while continuing to look for opportunities. Captain Ellie Mink had a solid game controlling the midfield. The graduate student managed to put up a shot in the 71 minute but couldn't make a connection.Â
ÂWith less than 10 minutes left in the game, a Marquette foul in the box granted the Blue Demons a penalty kick. Freshman Eisenring stepped up to the challenge and sank one into the back of the net to get DePaul on the board. With minimal time left in the match the Blue Demons searched for an equalizer but were unable to find one.Â
