
Blue Demons Welcome Eastern Illinois Tuesday Night

CHICAGO – The DePaul men's basketball team looks to continue its strong start to the season, Tuesday night, as they host Eastern Illinois inside Wintrust Arena. The game is slated for an 8 p.m. CT tip on FS2 with Chris Vosters and Phil Martelli on the call. LAST TIME OUT
DePaul (4-0) picked up its latest win Friday evening against Duquesne in convincing fashion, winning 84-58. The game marked DePaul's third-straight win by 25 or more points and officially surpassed the Blue Demons win total from last season. Isaiah Rivera led the Blue Demons in scoring for the third time in four games with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while David Skogman was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field for 16 points and nine boards.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
Entering Tuesday's game, DePaul has won its first four games of the season by an average of 23 points. The 23-point margin marks the largest in a four-game stretch to open the season for DePaul since 1999-00.
The new look Blue Demons roster has come to shape under new DePaul coach Chris Holtmann. As a team, DePaul is among the nation's best three-point shooting teams while also being one of the best field goal percentage teams in the nation. The Blue Demons rank 17th nationally with 11.8 made three-pointers per game and are doing so at a 39.2 percent clip. Defensively, DePaul has held opponents to 24 percent from deep and opponents are averaging just 64.8 points per game.
Conor Enright continues to make his case as a bona fide point guard, averaging 6.8 assists per game which is 20th nationally. The redshirt junior has recorded 7+ assists in three-consecutive games, becoming the first Blue Demon guard to do so since Charlie Moore in 2020. As a team, DePaul averages 19.8 assists per game which is also a top-20 mark nationally.
THE OPPONENT
Eastern Illinois (1-3) is coming off a narrow, 67-58, overtime loss to Northwestern Friday evening. The Panthers other two losses have come at the hands of top-25 foes, No. 17 Indiana and No. 24 Illinois. Nakyel Shelton leads EIU with 16.5 points per game on the season, including 19 points Friday against Northwestern. The Chicago, Ill. Native has notched double-digit points in every game this season for the Panthers and also averages 3.5 rebounds per game.
The Panthers are led by head coach Marty Simmons who is in his fourth season at the helm of EIU's program, but has over two decades of head coaching experience. Simmons holds a 312-316 career record including 184 wins as the head coach at his alma mater, Evansville, where he led the Purple Aces to five post-season appearances.
THE SERIES
Tuesday marks the ninth all-time meeting between the two programs, but the first under their respective head coaches. DePaul leads the all-time series 8-0 with the last meeting between the teams taking place over 15 years ago in 2006.
