Jacob Meyer scores team-high 18 points
EVANSTON, ILL. – A slow start proved to be too much for DePaul men's basketball on the road against Northwestern as they fell, 84-64, Saturday afternoon.
Jacob Meyer had a team-high 18 points followed by a 12-point outing from Conor Enright and a 11 point-10 rebound double-double from David Skogman. Enright also contributed seven rebounds and six assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northwestern (9-3, 1-1 Big Ten) had hot shooting to open the game as they jumped out to a 20-2 lead. DePaul's (8-4, 0-2 BIG EAST) defense eventually helped get them back into the game as they held Northwestern to multiple scoring droughts, including one over three-minutes where DePaul pulled within 13, 33-20. A three-pointer by Blocker and Skogman free throw cut the deficit to just 10 at halftime as DePaul held Northwestern to 7-of-23 to end the half.
Coming out of halftime, DePaul cut the deficit further on a three-pointer by Skogman which made it a 43-35 game. After Northwestern once again pulled out ahead, DePaul continued to look for answers this time coming on a stretch of 3-of-4 from three. Enright put the deficit back to eight, 72-64, on a pair of free throws but late turnovers kept the Blue Demons from pulling any closer.
