Blue Demons drop first contest of the year
LUBBOCK, TEXAS – A late second-half run by the DePaul men's basketball team wasn't quite enough as the Blue Demons dropped their first contest of the season, 76-62, on the road against (RV) Texas Tech.
DePaul (7-1) came back from double-digit deficits twice, in part due to Jacob Meyer's team-high 14 points. Meyer tallied four three-pointers, including three of which came in the first half, while JJ Traynor joined him in double-digits with 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting. David Skogman had a near double-double with nine points and a game-high eight rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite an early first half lead by Texas Tech (7-1), DePaul turned around red hot three-point shooting to go 9-of-13 from deep in the final 13 minutes of the first half. The performance included a 17-2 run for DePaul to come all the way back from 15 down, eventually taking the lead on a three by Enright, 34-33. Tech would take the one-point lead into halftime, giving DePaul its first halftime deficit of the season.
The Red Raiders once again stifled DePaul's offense coming out of the half, as they quickly turned their lead into double-digits, 56-42. The Blue Demons showed no quit as they held Tech without a field goal for over three minutes, allowing DePaul's offense to hit a quick 9-0 run capped off by a Skogman three-pointer. Tech found an answer offensively, however, ending the Blue Demons threat of a comeback.
