
DePaul Opens BIG EAST Tournament Wednesday Evening

NEW YORK – DePaul men's basketball opens up the 2024 BIG EAST Tournament Wednesday evening from Madison Square Garden. DePaul (3-28) enters the tournament as the No. 11 seed and will take on sixth-seeded Villanova in an 8 p.m. CT tip on FS1. Tim Brando and Bill Raftery have the television call with Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine on WBBM 780 AM. The winner of Wednesday night's matchup will advance to Thursday where they will face No. 3 Marquette at 8:30 p.m. CT.

SCOUTING DEPAUL
- Elijah Fisher has led DePaul in conference play, averaging 10. 5points per game and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 51.7 percent from the floor.
- The sophomore from Ontario, Canada enters the tournament with a streak of 10-consecutive games where he has scored 10 or more points, including a 19-point performance against #7 Marquette.
- DePaul has used 10 different starting lineups this season, but used the same combination of Chico Carter Jr., Jalen Terry, Jaden Henley, Fisher and Churchill Abass for the last five games.
- Since Matt Brady stepped into the interim head coach role, DePaul is shooting 75.1 percent at the free throw line as a team compared to its season average of 73.
- In his career at the BIG EAST Tournament, Terry has shot 55.6 percent from three-point range, averaging 7.7 points, 2.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game.
DEPAUL IN THE BIG EAST TOURNAMENT
- Wednesday will just the second time DePaul and Villanova (17-14) will meet in the BIG EAST Tournament with the last meeting 17 years ago. The Wildcats won 75-67 in 2007.
- The Blue Demons have won at least one game in three of the last four BIG EAST Tournaments.
- DePaul won a nail-biter first round matchup last year, 66-65, against Seton Hall with a last second block by Nick Ongenda.
- The Blue Demons set 10 individual and team BIG EAST Tournament records in 2023, including most points scored in a tournament game (84) and individual field goal percentage (Terry, .833).
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
- Villanova is led by All-BIG EAST forward, Eric Dixon, who averages 16.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
- Dixon has a team-best 88.1 percent at the free throw line where he has gone 111-126 this season. The Wildcats team leads the country with an 81.9 free throw percentage.
- The Wildcats offense averages over 27 three-point attempts per game while holding their opponents to 65.6 points per game.
- Villanova posted a 10-10 record in conference play this year with its top wins coming against Seton Hall, Creighton and Butler.
