Blue Demons Drops Series Finale to UConn

DePaul falls 5-1 on Sunday
STORRS, CONN. - DePaul softball fell on Sunday afternoon to UConn, 5-1.Â
Bella Nigey (4-7) started her second game of the series, going 3.0 innings with five hits and five errors. Graduate student Brenna Smith threw 3.0 innings of relief, giving up two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.Â
Senior Payton Viles tallied her first hit of the season with a single to right field while Carly Alvers recorded a hit for the second consecutive game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UConn (13-11, 3-0 BIG EAST) got the bats going early, scoring three runs in the first inning for a 3-0 lead. The Huskies notched a double and a home run in the third inning to extend their lead, 5-0.
DePaul (6-19, 2-4 BIG EAST) got on the board in the sixth inning. Morgan Rogers hit a leadoff single to left field, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. Riley Pool hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring Rogers home, 5-1, but the Blue Demons were unable to score any more.

DePaul will visit local rival Northwestern on Tuesday, March 19. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. CT with coverage on B1G+.
