Blue Demons set for home opening weekend
CHICAGO - DePaul softball opens their home schedule against Georgetown this weekend, March 8-10. The Blue Demons begin BIG EAST play from Cacciatore Stadium, with Friday's match beginning at 12:30 p.m. CT. Saturday is set to start at 1 p.m. CT with Sunday's first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. CT.

BLUE DEMON BITS
- DePaul has an overall record of 4-15 (0-0 BIG EAST) while ranking first in stolen bases (28), second in doubles (23) and fourth in batting average (0.258) in the conference.
- Brooke Johnson was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday after hitting .583 at the Judi Garman Classic last weekend. The fifth year senior leads the BIG EAST in batting average (.458), hits (27), home runs (6), slugging percentage (.881) and total bases (52). Johnson's slugging percentage ranks 31st in the nation while her batting average is 55th-best across the country.
- Sophomore Bella Nigey (3-5) leads the staff in innings pitched, totaling 43.1. Nigey has an ERA of 3.55 and pitched her third complete game of the season against San Jose State, giving up one run on seven hits.Â
- Brenna Smith (0-3) owns a team-best 3.03 ERA. The graduate student has thrown 37.0 innings across 12 games, earning four starts.
- Senior catcher Riley Pool has caught six runners stealing base, which ranks second in the conference and 17th nationally. Pool adds a .383 batting average with 18 hits and nine runs.Â
ABOUT GEORGETOWN
- Georgetown enters the weekend with a record of 9-11 (0-0 BIG EAST).Â
- The Hoyas own a batting average of .249, good for fifth in the conference.
- Sophomore Gabby Park leads the team with 19 hits and a batting average of .388.
- Sophomore Dayanara Campos has a team-best slugging percentage (.833) and ranks second in the BIG EAST in home runs (5).
- Junior Kayla Dunn leads the Hoyas in the circle, throwing 58.1 innings with 43 strikeouts. Dunn's 3.36 ERA is a team-best.Â
SERIES STUFF
DePaul leads the all-time series, 25-4. In their last meeting, the Blue Demons swept the Hoyas to conclude the 2023 regular season.Â
