DePaul Falls to Providence on Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - DePaul softball dropped the series opener to Providence in five innings, 10-1, Friday afternoon.

Abbey Pochie earned the start for the Blue Demons, throwing 1.2 innings. Katey Pierce appeared in relief and set a new career-best as she tallied four strikeouts through 2.1 innings pitched.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DePaul (8-27, 3-10 BIG EAST) got on the board first. Brooke Johnson drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a ground out from Riley Pool. Lydia Ettema knocked a base hit up the middle, allowing Johnson to score and take a 1-0 lead.

Providence (15-18, 6-10 BIG EAST) responded in the bottom of the first for a 2-1 lead off of a double and a triple.

The Blue Demons threatened in the top of the second as Pochie drew a two-out walk and stole second and third, but was unable to cross home.

The Friars tacked on three more runs in the second and a handful of runs throughout the third and fourth to extend their lead, 10-1.

DePaul looks to even the series with Providence on Saturday, April 13. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. CT with coverage on FloSoftball.
