Brooke Johnson ranks fourth all-time in home runs for DePaul Softball
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - DePaul softball dropped a Saturday afternoon matchup to Providence, 1-9.
Brooke Johnson tallied her ninth home run of the season and her 35th of her career. Johnson's 35 home runs rank fourth all-time in program history.
Brenna Smith started for DePaul (8-28, 3-11 BIG EAST) in the circle, throwing 4.1 innings and with 10 hits and nine runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Johnson crushed a home run to left center in the top of the first to put DePaul up early, 1-0. A string of errors and a two-run home run put Providence (16-18, 7-10 BIG EAST) in the lead in the bottom of the frame, 3-1.
Abbey Pochie and Johnson earned back-to-back walks in the third, but were unable to score.
The Friars scored two runs in the fourth and added three in the fifth to take the series win, 9-1.
