Abbey Pochie Records Career-High Six Strikeouts on Friday

Blue Demons fall in game one of the series
CHICAGO - DePaul softball fell in a close matchup to Butler on Friday afternoon, 2-1, despite a solid performance by sophomore Abbey Pochie in the circle. Pochie (1-1) pitched a complete game, while registering a career-high six strikeouts with two runs on six hits.
Redshirt freshman Ava Paganis made her first start for the Blue Demons in the field on Friday at second base, drawing two walks and laying down a sacrifice bunt.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The DePaul (7-24, 2-8 BIG EAST) offense got going in the second inning, as Riley Pool and Carly Alvers recorded back-to-back singles. Paganis moved Pool and Alvers to third and second base, respectively, on a sacrifice bunt. Baylee Cosgrove hit an infield single, allowing Pool to score from third for a 1-0 DePaul lead. Morgan Rogers added a double of her own, but the Blue Demons were unable to plate anymore.Â
Pochie went on to retire nine straight batters between the second and fourth innings before Butler (16-19, 5-8 BIG EAST) hit a pair of singles in the fifth inning. A double to right center gave Butler the go-ahead runs for a 2-1 lead.
DePaul looked to rally in the sixth and seventh innings with a string of singles and walks, but was unable to get back in front.
UP NEXT
DePaul returns to action on Saturday, April 6 for a doubleheader against Butler. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. CT with coverage on FloSoftball.
