DePaul Drops Tuesday Game to Iowa State

AMES, IOWA - DePaul softball fell to Iowa State, 8-2, Tuesday afternoon in Ames. Brooke Johnson went 1-for-2 at the plate while earning a walk and scoring one run for DePaul.Â

Katey Pierce (1-8) started the game in the circle, throwing 2.0 innings and giving up three runs on three hits. Bella Nigey appeared in relief over 1.2 innings with four runs on three hits. Brenna Smith wrapped up the game, allowing two hits and one run over 2.1 innings of work.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Iowa State opened the game with a trio of hits to score three runs for a 3-0 lead following two innings. Nigey entered to pitch in the third, putting down three-consecutive batters after allowing a leadoff single.Â

In the top of the fourth, Johnson and Riley Pool notched back-to-back singles setting up a sacrifice bunt opportunity for Ava Paganis. On a second-consecutive bunt, Carly Alvers reached base and scored Johnson and pinch-runner Alexis Hogue following an Iowa State error, cutting Iowa State's lead to one, 3-2.Â

Iowa State quickly answered, using a five-run fifth inning to secure the ultimate victory.Â

UP NEXT
DePaul continues its roadswing as the team heads east to take on Providence April 12-14. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT while Saturday is set for 12 p.m. CT. The weekend series will wrap up on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT. All three games will be streamed on FloSoftball.
