DePaul Drops Friday Afternoon Matchup to Seton Hall

Pochie collects first RBI of career on Friday
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - DePaul softball fell in the series opener to Seton Hall, 4-1, Friday afternoon.
Katey Pierce started in the circle for DePaul (8-37, 3-19 BIG EAST) throwing 3.0 innings, giving up three runs on five hits. Brenna Smith appeared in relief, pitching 3.0 innings while giving up two hits and one run while collecting two strikeouts.
Abbey Pochie collected her first career RBI with a double to left center to help the Blue Demons get their lone run of the game. Carly Alvers continued her hitting streak, recording a hit in the last five games setting a new career high.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Seton Hall (26-20, 13-9 BIG EAST) took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning off of a double. The Blue Demons responded in the second with hits from Alvers and Kali Blount while Baylee Cosgrove drew a walk to load the bases, but were unable to cross home.
The Pirates extended their lead in the third off of a single and a double, going up 3-0.
DePaul was able to get on the board in the fifth as Cosgrove took first base after being hit by a pitch and stealing second to get in scoring position. Pochie dropped a ball in left center field to score Cosgrove, 3-1.
Seton Hall added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead that lasted until the end of the game.
The Blue Demons looked to rally in their final frame of the game, getting the bases loaded after two walks and a hit-by-pitch, but a groundout ended any chance of a comeback.
UP NEXT
DePaul and Seton Hall will wrap up the regular season with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 4. Game one will begin at 11 a.m. CT with game two scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. CT first pitch.
