DePaul earns first conference win of season
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – After conceding early in the second half, DePaul women's soccer responded with two unanswered goals to secure a 2-1 comeback victory over Seton Hall on Wednesday evening at Owen T. Carroll Field. The result marked DePaul's first BIG EAST win of the campaign and extended its unbeaten streak against the Pirates to 13 straight matches dating back to 2011.
"I'm really proud of the team's fight and resilience tonight," said head coach Michele O'Brien. "They never gave up, and it was great to see that rewarded. Sienna absolutely deserved her goal; she's been working incredibly hard and has found a new level to her game. We created a lot of chances and generated some quality attacks, so it felt good to capitalize on two of them."
How It Happened
The Pirates opened the scoring in the 46th minute when Jordana Bello finished off a cross from Grace Lawler. DePaul (4-9-1, 1-4-1 BIG EAST) answered just 10 minutes later as Danielle Fjeldsted buried her second goal of the year on a feed from Tessa Fagerson to level the score.
The Blue Demons continued to press forward, controlling much of the possession and earning five corners on the night. Their persistence paid off in the 81st minute when Sienna Gonzales netted her first goal as a Blue Demon, finishing off a setup from Grace Menser to give DePaul the lead for good.
Goalkeeper Maddie Iro recorded two saves in the full 90 minutes to collect her first win of the season.
Match Notes
DePaul returns home to Wish Field on Saturday, Oct. 18, hosting Creighton at 3 p.m. CT. The matchup will stream live on ESPN+.
