Gandini, Medica, Torres Almeida conclude stay at Hope College Invite
HOLLAND, Mich. – Representing DePaul men's tennis at the Hope College RSM Invite, Alejandro Gandini, Sebastian Medica, and Pablo Torres Almeida turned in solid performances over the weekend, combining for seven total wins in a strong field of Midwest-region talent.
In round one action, Medica led the way with a 6-3, 7-5 singles victory over Purdue's Youssef Simeunovic and later teamed with Gandini for a 6-3 doubles win against Purdue's Premzl/Simeunovic.
Like Medica, Torres Almeida found his rhythm in round two, posting a 1-6, 6-1, 11-9 comeback victory over Ali-Khan (PUR). In doubles, Torres Almeida paired with Zhang (Illinois) for a 6-4 win against Jovic/Ali-Khan (PUR), while Gandini and Medica added another doubles victory over Indiana's Jilly/Colleu, 7-5.
Round three saw close battles against Notre Dame and Michigan State opponents, with Gandini and Medica each dropping tight tiebreaks and Torres Almeida extending his match with MSU's Sheldon to three sets.
The Blue Demons closed out strong in round four as Medica defeated Notre Dame's Magimay, 6-2, 7-6(3), while Torres Almeida notched a 6-3, 7-5 win over Moriarty (WMU). DePaul finished the weekend with four singles and three doubles victories.
