DePaul ties Wintrust Arena record 29 assists

CHICAGO – Behind a Wintrust Arena record 29 team assists, DePaul men's basketball led from start to finish Tuesday evening in a 93-62 victory over Gardner-Webb. The Blue Demons assisted on 29 of its 36 made field goals, with assists coming from nine different players.

DePaul (3-2) was led in scoring with four players in double-digits, including a game-high 18 from CJ Gunn. Layden Blocker and Kaleb Banks both tacked on 16, in addition to a career-high 11 from Fabián Flores. Banks was 7-of-9 from the floor with four rebounds, while Flores tacked on five rebounds, four steals and two assists to his point total.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue Demons took control early and led throughout the entirety of the game, which began with four free throws from Blocker. Blocker continued to show his impact, aiding DePaul in a 9-0 run. Kruz McClure checked in, quickly making his presence known by knocking down a pair of three-pointers. DePaul closed out the first half shooting 6-of-8.

Shortly into the start of the second half, DePaul set off on an 10-0 run to extend the team's lead. Flores titled nine second-half points as the evening concluded with scores by Banks and Khaman Maker.

OF NOTE

Blocker had a career-high five steals, tying for the most by a Blue Demon in a home game since 2022.
NJ Benson tied a personal-best three assists.
DePaul's 29 assists are the most by a BIG EAST program this season.
