Nigey strikes out seven in second complete game of season
Wilmington, N.C. – DePaul softball (7-6) defeated UMass by a score of 4-2 at Boseman Field Sunday morning.
Bella Nigey earned the nod in the circle, posting her second complete game of the year, allowing just five hits and two runs, along with seven strikeouts, bringing her total to 34 this season.
Bibianna Rodriguez contributed her third consecutive multi-hit game, driving home two RBI on the day, and Morgan Rogers also added two hits for her second multi-hit outing of 2025.
Graduate student Kelly Beaupre went a perfect three-for-three at the plate, notching three singles.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Despite notching a double in the first frame, three consecutive Minutewomen struck out swinging at the hands of Nigey, and the Bettendorf, Iowa native retired UMass in order in the second.
Consecutive singles from Lydia Ettema and Kelly Beaupre in the second inning marked the first base hits for the Blue Demons, with both advancing after a sacrifice bunt from Addison Talbot. A two-RBI single from Bibianna Rodriguez would score both Ettema and Beaupre, the first runs of the morning.
DePaul would load the bases in the third but could not capitalize, stranding Alvers, Blount, and Beaupre, and UMass would proceed to knot the game at two runs after a pair of singles and an error in the fourth.
The Blue Demons would quickly regain the lead, starting with another duo of base hits from Rodriguez and Morgan Rogers. An error from the Minutewomen would bring up Alvers, who sent off a sacrifice fly to bring Rodriguez across. Rogers would account for one final run in the sixth, laying down a bunt and stealing second before a single from freshman Addi Burdick brought her home to score.
