
Blue Demons Split Pair of Games Saturday Afternoon

Baylee Cosgrove logs three hits in game two victory
CHICAGO - DePaul softball (11-13, 1-5 BIG EAST), split a doubleheader against Seton Hall (12-10, 5-1 BIG EAST) Saturday, falling 5-4 in the morning matchup, before defeating the Pirates 5-3 in the afternoon, their first conference victory of the year.
Freshman Ava Gusel earned her fifth start of 2025 and first of league play in the opening game, allowing four runs on four hits in 4.1 innings of work. Fellow freshman Hannah Messer concluded the game in relief, with just one run on three hits in 2.2 innings.
Kelly Greene pitched in convincing fashion throughout the second outing between the two sides, allowing just three runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings. Messer once again entered in relief for the final two outs, delivering a strikeout in emphatic fashion to finish the Blue Demon victory.
Senior Baylee Cosgrove tallied five hits on the day, including three of DePaul's four hits in their game two victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One: DePaul 4, Seton Hall 5
Seton Hall came out swinging, with a single from Taylor Hill, and a pair of home runs from Kelsey Carr and Katey Brennan, giving the Pirates a three-run advantage early.
The Blue Demons responded in the second frame, with hits from Lydia Ettema, Zoe Levine, and Addison Talbot driving two runs across the plate.
The Pirates added on one more in the fourth, but DePaul scored Ettema in the sixth after a walk, a stolen base, and an RBI-double from Kali Blount, knotting the contest at four runs apiece. Seton Hall scored the game-winning run in the final frame, after a single from Carr, and RBI-double from Olivia Gilbert.

Game Two: DePaul 5, Seton Hall 3
Seton Hall once again opened in rapid fashion, with two runs in the opening frame, after a double from Kelsey Carr and single from Hannah Alexander.
The Blue Demons regained the lead with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, with a walk, an error, a stolen base, and a pair of fielder's choice plays from the defense.
Talbot and Blount would tack on the final two runs, both sacrifice flies to drive home Cosgrove, in the second and fourth innings, respectively.

DePaul will travel south to local rival UIC on Tuesday, March 18 at 4 p.m., before hosting Providence March 21-23 at Cacciatore Stadium. Saturday, March 22 marks Senior Day, where the Blue Demons will celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of their five seniors. Fans are advised to arrive early, and will receive a senior poster while supplies last.
