DePaul Heads to UIC for Midweek Matchup

CHICAGO – DePaul softball (11-13,1-5 BIG EAST) travels south to Flames Field on Tuesday, for a midweek matchup with local rival UIC (4-22, 0-3 Missouri Valley). First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. DePaul enters the game coming off of their first conference victory at home against Seton Hall, while UIC was swept by Missouri State in a three-game series.

BLUE DEMON BITS

A quartet of Blue Demons hold averages above .300 at the plate, led by senior Addison Talbot with a .316 mark
Talbot is the only Blue Demon who has started at least 15 games and retains a perfect fielding percentage
Freshman Hannah Messer notched her first career save in DePaul's victory over Seton Hall on Saturday, adding two strikeouts for the final two outs
Messer has entered four conference games in relief, tied for the most by any pitcher in the league
Senior Baylee Cosgrove has reached base in her last 11 plate appearances, the longest streak by any one Blue Demon this season, and she also leads the team with 14 RBIs and 23 hits
On Saturday, March 15, Lydia Ettema became the fourth Blue Demon to hit a home run this year, and first at Cacciatore Stadium
At 15 starts, Ettema has also eclipsed her number of appearances in the starting lineup from the entirety of 2024, when she recorded 12
DePaul has not been swept in a home-opening series at Cacciatore Stadium since 2011 against former conference opponent Louisville

SCOUTING THE FLAMES

Against common opponent Detroit Mercy, DePaul earned a 1-0 victory, while the Flames fell 3-2 in eight innings.
Redshirt senior Dee Dee Caskey tops the squad with a .343 batting average, including nine doubles, three triples, and a .567 slugging percentage
Alyssa McIntosh has pitched six complete games for the Flames in ten starts, tallying a 4.57 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 76.2 innings of work
Jamie Buksa was named as the interim head coach on February 4, after serving as an assistant coach at UIC from 2017-2024

SERIES STUFF

The Blue Demons hold the all-time series lead at 54-28, including a 19-14 record at UIC
DePaul has won the last five meetings, most recently defeating the Flames 16-6 in six innings on April 6, 2022 at Flames Field
The Flames have only defeated the Blue Demons once in the last 15 years, earning a narrow 1-0 victory in 2017

The Blue Demons will resume BIG EAST play on Friday, March 21, welcoming Providence for a three-game series. Saturday, March 22 will serve as Senior Day for the program, where the Blue Demons will recognize their five seniors.
