
Blue Demons Prepare for Pair of Midweek Contests

DePaul to host Loyola Chicago and Valparaiso
CHICAGO – DePaul softball is set to welcome Loyola Chicago and Valparaiso to Cacciatore Stadium on Tuesday, March 25 and Wednesday, March 26, respectively. First pitch for both games is slated for 3 p.m. CT, and fans can enjoy one-dollar hot dogs for the duration of both contests.

- Sopohmore Lydia Ettema launched three home runs in as many games during DePaul's series against Providence, bringing her total to four on the season, good for a tie for first in the BIG EAST
- Senior Addison Talbot and Ettema are the two Blue Demons batting above .300, with .340 and .314 averages, respectively, and Talbot has notched the most multi-hit games on the squad at six
- Bella Nigey holds the lowest ERA on staff at 1.84, good for second in the conference, and her 47 strikeouts place her in a tie for fifth in the league
- Pitchers Hannah Messer and Katey Pierce both entered in all three games of the Providence series, with Messer logging four strikeouts, a new career-high, on Friday afternoon
- Across all games, redshirt sophomore Kali Blount is tied for second in the conference with nine doubles
RAMBLERS REPORT
- The Ramblers sit at 5-22, including a 1-5 mark in the Atlantic 10 conference, with their most recent win coming on Sunday, March 23 against St. Joseph's, 7-1
- Loyola has yet to log a true road win this season, with all of their victories occurring at home or at neutral sites
- Senior infielder Haley Wallace leads the Ramblers with a .305 average at the plate, the only member of the squad above .300 on the year
- Andie Broniewicz and Peyton Pepkowski have split starting duties in the circle for Loyola, pitching 62.1 and 85 innings, respectively
- Pepkowski tops the staff with 63 strikeouts, while Broniewicz has the lowest ERA at 5.61
SCOUTING THE BEACONS
- Valparaiso's last win came on the road against Indiana State on March 15, a narrow 3-2 victory in 11 innings of play
- Freshman Madison Vrastil leads the Beacons in batting average with a .430, at-bats (86), runs (16), hits (37), doubles (8), triples (2), and multi-hit games (12)
- Vrastil is also a perfect ten for ten on stolen bases, accounting for nearly half of the team total of 23, and her longest reached base streak extends across 22 of Valparaiso's 25 games this season
- Corona, California native Azalya Lopez tops the pitching staff with 62 strikeouts, six wins, and a 3.08 ERA across 17 total appearances
- Head coach Mike Armitage is in his first season at the helm, after leading Minnesota State University Moorhead to consecutive 30-win seasons for the first time in program history
SERIES STUFF
- The Blue Demons lead the all-time series against the Ramblers 63-6, winning the last seven meetings dating back to 2013
- DePaul and Loyola Chicago have not played since March 31, 2021, with DePaul taking the 7-5 victory on the road
- The Blue Demons also have the series advantage over the Beacons, 47-1-1, defeating them by a score of 2-0 at the DePaul Dome Tournament earlier this season
- The lone win for Valparaiso came on March 11, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the tie came in the second-ever meeting between the sides in March 1986 in Valparaiso, Indiana
