Former Blue Demon honored as one of top young coaches in the country
CHICAGO – For the second-straight year, DePaul women's basketball assistant coach Ashton Millender was named a Thirty Under 30 honoree by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), the organization announced on Thursday morning.
The WBCA Thirty Under 30 program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches aged 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement. This is the ninth year of the WBCA Thirty Under 30 program.
Millender concluded her second season as an assistant coach on DePaul's staff where she works primarily with the guard unit while playing a major role in the program's recruiting efforts. She was instrumental in the continued development of All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention selection Taylor Johnson-Matthews who averaged 14.5 points per game and shot 36-percent from long distance in her first season in a Blue Demon uniform.
The former Blue Demon was elevated to assistant coach in May of 2023 after spending the 2022-23 season as a graduate assistant. As a student-athlete, Millender appeared in a program record 144 games, while making 77 starts. She led DePaul to the programs fourth Sweet 16 in 2016 and was a member of three BIG EAST Tournament title runs. Her 286 made three-point field goals ranks second in program history and her 1,392 career points are good for 25th all time. Millender holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology from DePaul's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
