Blue Demons send student athletes to California and Indiana for key midseason tests
AZUSA, Calif. / TERRA HAUTE, Ind. – DePaul track and field is set for another busy weekend of outdoor action as the Blue Demons split their roster between two meets—the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, and the Gibson Invitational hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute. Competition runs Thursday through Saturday, April 17–19, and features several of DePaul's top performers across both sites.
Five Blue Demons are entered at Bryan Clay, one of the most competitive midseason invitationals in the country. Tessa Roe and Nina Amicon will race in the women's 5000m, Vivian Wyller is entered in the women's 1500m, and Dustin Hudak and Damian Rodriguez are set to compete in the men's 800m. Hudak, who broke DePaul's outdoor 800m record last weekend with a 1:48.46 in Tampa, headlines the group heading west. With deep fields and late-night racing, Bryan Clay offers a high-level opportunity for all five athletes making the trip.
A larger group of Blue Demons will compete at the Gibson Invitational, which includes a full event slate across sprints, hurdles, throws, and jumps. The meet gives DePaul another chance to carry momentum from a strong showing last week at the South Florida and Wheaton Invitationals.
In Tampa, Hudak's school-record performance was matched by Demetrius Rolle's 10.35 in the 100m, resetting the program record and moving him to No. 1 in the BIG EAST. Charles Lewis followed with a 21.32 in the 200m, also the top mark in the conference, while Paul Goins ran a personal-best 14.10 in the 110m hurdles. In the field, Alex Bernstein placed second in the hammer with a throw of 63.81m, and Kash Allen picked up another win in the shot put. Jaiden Gary finished top six in all three of his throwing events, including a 15.87m mark in the shot that leads the BIG EAST.
At Wheaton, Rodriguez won the men's 800m in 1:53.21, and the Blue Demon women swept the top five spots in the 800m behind a 2:13.23 from Isabella Orozco. Amicon finished fourth in the 1500m, and Jorden Reddick led the way in the hurdles with a third-place finish. In Saturday's women's action in Tampa, Allen added another win in the shot put, while Jaiah Hopf placed fourth in both the long jump and triple jump—her 12.72m mark now ranks first in the BIG EAST. Sade Miller also moved to the top of the league leaderboard in the 100m with an 11.67, just ahead of teammate Jetta Mays, who ran 11.69.
DePaul enters the weekend with seven athletes currently leading the BIG EAST in their events: Rolle in the 100m, Lewis in the 200m, Miller in the women's 100m, Hopf in the triple jump, Gary and Allen in the shot put, and Bernstein in the hammer throw. Hudak and Bernstein also remain DePaul's top-ranked athletes on the national list, sitting inside the NCAA's top 50.
