DePaul stays unbeaten through four matches
CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer fought to a 1-1 draw with St. Thomas on Sunday afternoon at Wish Field. The Blue Demons answered back after conceding early, as junior Keagan Pace buried the equalizer in the 58th minute to keep the team unbeaten through its first four matches.
St. Thomas (2-0-2) wasted little time in striking first. Mathis Guffroy and Simon Klevberg connected in the attacking third, setting up Yanis Lakhlifi for a headed finish in the 7th minute.
DePaul (1-0-3) responded with wave after wave of pressure, piling up 10 first-half shots and five corners, but couldn't find a breakthrough before halftime. The Blue Demons finally leveled in the 58th minute, as Christian Baumgartner saw his initial attempt turned away before Pace cleaned it up for his third goal of the season.
The result marked DePaul's third draw of the young campaign, already equaling its total from 2024. The Blue Demons also remain unbeaten in the all-time series with St. Thomas, moving to 1-0-2 across three meetings.
How It Happened
DePaul nearly had the perfect response after conceding early. Within minutes of Lakhlifi's opener, the Blue Demons fired off four shots between the 14th and 16th minute, but efforts from Pace, Tyson Amoo-Mensah, Gavin Netzel, and Joon Han were each blocked.
The hosts continued to generate chances, as Noeh Hernandez, Sam Tinoco, and Luca Iaccino all tested the Tommies back line before halftime. Iaccino came closest in the 37th minute, forcing Krenc into a save at the near post, but the Blue Demons still entered the break trailing 1-0.
Momentum carried over into the second half. Pace pushed a look wide in the 46th minute before Baumgartner sparked the equalizer sequence just past the hour mark. After his shot was stopped, Pace pounced inside the box to tie the match at 1-1.
The Blue Demons kept the pressure on, with Baumgartner again denied in the 73rd and Flowers missing narrowly in the 80th. Tinoco and Max Padua each had late attempts in the final minutes, but neither side broke the deadlock as the match ended level.
