Blue Demons look to recapture magic from last year’s postseason upset
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – DePaul women's soccer hits the road for a one-match swing in Indianapolis, Ind. when the Blue Demons take on Butler at the Butler Bowl on Wednesday evening. The Blue Demons (3-6) look to regain some magic from their last appearance against the Bulldogs in the BIG EAST Championships, when DePaul advanced after a 3-3 double-overtime draw and 8-7 penalty kick shootout for the program's first semifinals appearance since 2016. Action in Indy kicks off at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
While the Blue Demons have been shut out in each of their setbacks, the defensive core has remained steady - holding eight of nine opponents to two goals or fewer. Looking to turn the corner offensively, DePaul will aim to replicate last fall's breakthrough against Butler, when the Blue Demons produced three regulation goals and buried all eight attempts in the shootout.
Butler (3-1-4) enters the week with just one loss on the season, coming against a familiar lakefront foe in Northwestern. To open BIG EAST play, the Bulldogs battled Marquette to a 2-2 draw on Sept. 20 and have posted victories against IU-Indy, Illinois State, and Central Michigan.
